Theses in the field of vocational and business education
In various degree programs, final theses can be written in the field of vocational and business education. The topics provided are regularly based on the research focus of the supervisors.
Content requirements:
In the Bachelor's programme, we also assume that students have basic skills in the field of vocational and business education and academic writing for a thesis. We offer the vocational and business education courses in the relevant degree programs and expect you to have successfully completed them beforehand. (You can find the legal examination requirements at your examination office.) Courses on academic work are offered in the Studium Integrale and are also available as open (extracurricular) courses. In our Bachelor's courses, which conclude with a seminar paper, scientific work is also the subject of the courses.

We regularly expect you to approach us with an idea. In the Bachelor's programme, you are welcome to approach us about this in the courses. In the Master's program in Business Education / Teaching at Vocational Colleges, Master's theses are typically registered at the beginning of the fourth semester in order to be able to start the preparatory service directly after the semester. Register here at the end of the lecture period of the third semester.
First send a request by email to our office. In addition to your contact details, the request should contain the following three points
- desired subject area,
- the planned timeframe and
- a first and second preference for supervision.
Topic providers:
The following three examiners Prof. Dr. Detlef Buschfeld, Prof. Dr. Matthias Pilz, and Dr. Benno Göckede are available for theses.
The examiners are supported in their supervision by the research assistants. You do not have to worry about a second examiner, this will be arranged by us. For all Bachelor's students in the vocational field of economics and all Master's students in Business Education / Teacher Training for Vocational Colleges, we ensure supervision by the institute. However, due to lecture-free research semesters and the workload, this is unfortunately not always possible with the desired examiner.
General information:
We expect you to submit written work in a legible format. In addition, a scientific way of working is expected. In particular, the use of statements - even in modified formulations - must be indicated by a reference (with page number). We also expect a scientifically appropriate language style and gender-appropriate writing. We do not (furthermore) prescribe a specific citation style or exact layout.
